What I am thinking here is to get an aerial photo, resize it to the correct scale and then in the map editor "colour it in" with the game terrain tiles. I was fooling around with the CMSF demo editor over the weekend in order to get a feel of the interface and the potential of making accurate maps and this came immediately to my mind as well. I had so much fun when Mapping Mission was around for the CM:1 series. you could even import digital elevation maps.
