So it wouldn't surprise me to see that Win2k has it as well. frown.gif I don't know if MS' Knowledge Database or one of their newsgroups might have something about it. Might be worth checking out. Good luck.

Sweet! Thanks for the link. Very useful information although I doubt I'd want my system to be at 95 degrees Celsius. Ouch! The issue with it hanging on shutdown/restart isn't intermittent. Pretty much every time. I talked with the vendor and they suggested that it was an "underpower" issue not allowing the system to reboot. BS. They basically didn't want to ship out a new MB for me to try because they haven't a clue as to what is wrong. While the system is up it runs sweet but this is getting annoying. I'll let you know what happens but on Monday I'm off to Italy for two weeks.

Shutdown issues are often due to device drivers not unloading when Windows attempts to shutdown/restart. Another motherboard may not fix this problem. Other software can be to blame also. If it is really annoying you, then you may want to either wipe out your hard drive and install from scratch and see if the problem continues with just Windows installed (if you have a spare hard drive that would be preferable to use) or start manually shutting down programs and using Ctrl-Alt-Del to shut down everything but "Explorer" and see if Windows shuts down properly then. You may have to uninstall programs or remove device drivers to see if that would help.

There are many possibilities to shutdown problems. Some are hardware related and many are software related.

That's what I thought at first too, but the problem lies in the fact that I can do a CTL-ALT-DEL before Windows even loads and get the same results. I can see the drives being checked (floppy, and both CD drives light up temporarily) and then nada. The hard drive activity light stays on with no response. CTL-ALT-DEL will not work again and I must hard cycle the power.

Well gang, as of right now my computer is getting finished up at the shop. (I'm at work.)

Here's what I ended up getting:

ASUS A7V133 board 266MHz FSB

1.2 GHz T-bird 266MHz FSB

256 MB PC133 SDRAM

(Note: They got in some of the A7A boards that support DDR memory and SDRAM and they are having problems with it.)

30 GB Seagate 7200rpm HDD-master

13 GB Maxtor 5400rpm HDD-slave(My old one.)

64 MB DDR Geforce 2 GTS Platinum Ed.

Cool Maximus, I hope it works out for you. This is what I ended up getting (all parts should be in next week):

AMD Thunderbird 1.33 GHz, 266MHz FSB

256MB RAM, PC2100 (266 MHz), Micron

Asus A7M266 motherboard

Maxtor DiamondMax 40GB hard drive, 7200 RPM, ATA 100

MSI StarForce Geforce 2 Pro, 64MB DDR

SB Live! Value

Boston Acoustics BA4800

Superpower Zephyr KS-201XP case (w/300W power supply)

Extra fan for case

All that cost me around $1000. I'm using current hardware (mouse, keyboard, DVD, etc.) to fill in the holes.

ckoharik, I'm going with Asus because I've gone with Asus for the last two computers I've built and they've worked great. I haven't had to upgrade the bios once to fix a problem, though I've upgraded them a few times anyways for preventitive maintenance. I think I got the Asus P55T2P4 the first time, and a P2B the second time.

Yup, had/have a system with the P2B-S motherboard. Lovely. I'm thinking about offering to pay the difference in price between the Soyo and Asus motherboards and see if that solves the problem.

P.S.-Finally, with the new version of the board I can get my display name the way I wanted without registering again.
