Installation and licensing question

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've purchased CM:SF from Gamersgate just now and I have also purchased the two add-on modules via the bundle deal. I'm a little unsure firstly what additional patches I might need and what I need to be aware of when licensing.

So, I have the GG version which has a serial and the module bundle which has one license key. I've looked on the patch pages and it says that if you have the GG version and at least one module, then there is no need to download any patches as the modules will patch the game up when installed although some posts in the forum seem to contradict this.

Also, I can't find a patch for SF and BOTH modules, the only ones I can see on the patch pages are for CM:SF plus only Marines OR British Forces but not both. Is this correct?

So if I don't need any patches, do I wait until I install the modules before licensing?

I ask because I don't want to waste a license install by mistake and I don't want to corrupt my install by installing a patch that I shouldn't.

Cheers

Mark

The CMSF modules will overwrite the CMSF base game executable with a version of the executable that supports those modules AND uses eLicense. The Gamersgate license will no longer be necessary.

If you were doing a clean install it would go like this:

1) Install CMSF Gamersgate version. No need to license it, but hopefully no problems occur.

2) Extract bundle, which should extract into two separate installers for the Marines and British Forces modules.

3) Install the Marines module. Make sure it gets installed into your Gamersgate installation of CMSF (the default may look for a 'Battlefront' install).

4) License the Marines module (by launching CMSF). You should be able to start CMSF now and both the base game and the Marines module should appear as icons in the lower left hand corner of the main menu screen. In the center of the screen it should tell you that you are at version 1.10.

5) Install the British Forces module. Again make sure it is installing into your Gamersgate installation directory of CMSF.

6) License the British Forces module (by launching CMSF). You should now see the British Forces module icon and you should be at version 1.20.

7) Download the 1.21 patch. Since you have CMSF modules, you can use Battlefront patches. There are two versions of the 1.21 patch, one is free and intended to use with Battlefront copies of CMSF or anyone who has installed a CMSF module. The other version is for Paradox/Gamersgate versions of CMSF WITHOUT ANY modules (and it costs $5, so you shouldn't see it available for download).

8) Install the 1.21 patch and make sure to select "CMSF + Marines + British modules" (I can't recall the exact text) during the patching process. If you make an incorrect selection, you will be missing modules or possibly get a license request for the base game itself (and you would be missing the other modules).

9) When you run CMSF the next time, you should see all three module icons and you should be at version 1.21.
