Colonel J Lee
I am trying to figure out whether I need to tell infantry sqauds to use their Grenade Bundles or magnetic mines by using the target order or not. For example, if the tank is 30 meters out (like in the scenarion I was playing last night), and it has NO infantry support, and I have two infantry squads behind it, should I "advance" or "assault" with the squads AND target the tank also, or will just advancing or assaulting right up to the tank be sufficient? (in other words, will they use the weapons on their own?)
xerxes
Infantry will use handheld AT weapons on their own without any commands. You just need to be in range. Generally the infantry will only use these if they aren't under fire. I always rely on the TacAI to handle the infantry AT weapons, my job is to just get my squads in position to do so.
Colonel J Lee
Thanks, Xerxes. So, to get them in range, would you suggest (in my example) that I "advance" them or use the "assault" command and THEN let them "do the rest"? I apologize to all for putting this post in the wrong place. I have posted a lot in tech forum this past week and just reflexively went there! Sorry.
Londoner
Not much in it Colonel. IIRC With advance you'll be slightly less exposed but with assault you'll get a slight morale boost. If you had a 2 man tank hunter team, using advance would probably be safer but if you had a full squad you could afford to take a casualty or two and get the benefit of the morale boast. However IIRC assault is slightly more tiring than the advance command so if the squad in question isn't fully "rested" advance might be better. I guess it all depends on the situation. junk2drive
let us know what works. i'd be afraid that at too close a range they would be worried about blowing themselves up in the attack. i think maybe a move to contact command if the tank is not moving.
Londoner
Move to contact won't work junk, the unit will halt as soon as it spots an enemy or takes fire. So in this case the squad simply won't move at all.
xerxes
I prefer sneak because if you're seen, you'll be fired on and then your squad/team won't use their AT weapons. Sneaking squads will also fire AT weapons while sneaking. More of a stealthy hunter approach then a guns blazing rambo attack (i.e. assault command)

Kobal2
I still miss the "Anything happens, you know what to do." command from CMBO.
