LongLeftFlank
I am planning (insh'allah) at least one SEAL sniper-centered scenario for my Ramadi series (it won't be a "campaign", just a series of 2004-2006 historical actions taking place on a 1.5 x 2/3 km patch of downtown). The Sheriff of Ramadi provides excellent source material. But who knows when that'll get done.
afreu
Does the current quality of BLUE snipers allow for such a scenario?
meade95
Does the current quality of BLUE snipers allow for such a scenario? +1 to this - I still believe, time and again "elite" status units (including sniper) simply don't peform high enough. In terms of SA, accuracy of weapons fire and or in general efficiency of overall performance....
stoex
+1 from me as well... Elite Blue snipers often have serious trouble hitting kneeling enemy infantry in the open at 200 meters. Shouldn't be so... Also, when do we finally get more ammo for the snipers? That or the ability to restock from a vehicle? At least if the snipers come with their own rides, those rides should have the correct ammo on board.

On a side note - Along with this topic (of needing increased abilities of sniper / elite units).....LongLeftFlank......looking very forward to your Ramadi maps coming out....
LongLeftFlank
Thanks for the encouragement, Meade. Every time I think I'm done with the map and can move on to scenario design, I keep having to expand the monster. At this point my scenarios will only use subsections of the full map (which would crash most computers). My first scenario, "Relief of Joker Three" (based on the April 6 2004 action exhaustively documented in the book "Joker One" and featured in "Shootout:Ramadi" -- see YouTube) required me to build another 100 meters south into the Mulaab.... that's another 50 or so buildings. But I am also trying to playtest it as well, and maybe I'll post some screenies soon.
meade95
I loved The Sheriff of Ramadi by Dick Couch - I would agree and appreciate that you are keeping your missions based off of using smaller portions of an overall map......great for keeping computers/game play running smooth.....
LongLeftFlank
Well, the nature of the urban terrain means that long range firefights are the exception not the rule anyway. I do intend to do one long skinny map depicting a hazardous "Boxcar Run" down IED-infested Route Michigan. My biggest scenarios (and maps) will be the sieges of the Government Center (early 2006) and of OP Horea (November 2005), both of which involved several hundred insurgents attacking from all sides. If you're interested, the other key source work on Ramadi besides Dick Couch and Donovan Campbell (Joker One -- which is outstanding) is "Street Fight in Iraq" by Gunny Patrick Tracy. 2/5 Fox Co. didn't normally cover the Government Center area -- they had the western end and Euphrates bank, but Tracy gives very valuable details on how 2/5 infantry tactics were rebuilt around the gun trucks, and how QRF tactics had to evolve as the insurgents got clever at using an initial "bump" as bait to lure the QRF into a bigger ambush. All stuff I'd like to cover in time....
meade95
LLF - Just finished reading Joker One - great read! - I plan to re-read Sheriff of Ramadi now so I can reflect on the entire anbar / Ramadi situation within the correct time frame. Also, the more I read, the more I think RPGs are over-powered, over accurate within CMSF. Of course I try and offset this by tweaking most RPG dedicated units at Conscript or Green level. But definitely, Joker One is an excellent read and reccommend.
LongLeftFlank
Glad you liked it. Ramadi doesn't get the media attention of Fallujah, but it was a vastly more difficult fight, though drawn out over years, not days. Also, check out the HC documentary "Shootout: Ramadi" on Youtube. Good accounts from the POV of Joker 3, the unit that was pinned down. Unit locations shown on the maps aren't quite right though -- I tend to defer to Campbell on that.
