LongLeftFlank
For those who haven't noticed this before, unarmed units such as Spies and Uncon transport group drivers will arm themselves with small arms from (same-side only) casualties upon rendering Buddy Aid. They will then engage in fighting. So if you ever wanted to turn the game into a squad-level shooter (i.e. with each unit representing 1-2 guys), here's a way to do it (for Red): Select an Uncon transport group (8 vehicles + unarmed drivers) or an equivalent number of spies. Also select a Fighter or Combatant unit, but have those guys blown up on turn 1 by a huge enemy IED -- this generally kills the lot of them. Have all the drivers dismount and come to the action spot (a huge crater). They will render Buddy Aid and arm themselves. The spies also become soldiers -- i.e. they don't simply rout and vanish when an enemy enters their location. I particularly like this because I can hide spies with or near other Uncon units such as MG teams and have them take over the weapons as their operators get killed. This provides a strong incentive for Blue to "clear" buildings properly. Unarmed units will also scrounge gear and ammo from vehicles. I haven't yet established whether drivers or spies will actually use RPGs or other ATGW, although they certainly do retrieve them. Doing the same thing for Blue is a little harder, since there aren't any unarmed units. The HMMWV transport group HQ is the only one-man unit available, and he's already armed.
