Cpl Carrot
I have played TCP before with no problems. However in my latest attempt my computer is unable to open a TCP connection. CMBO works fine, as to other games, it seems the issue is with CMBB. I am running win98 and have not installed anything (that I know) that may interfer with it. I have no active virus scanner running - ot firewall. Any ideas? TIA Cpl Carrot
Schrullenhaft
Who is hosting, you or the other person ? What version of the game is the other player using, BFC/Internet or CM2/CDV, etc. ? What kind of internet hookup does each opponent have ? Can you ping the IP address your opponent has provided you ? What exactly is happening in CMBB when you put in the IP address ?
Cpl Carrot
The error message when I try to host is: ERROR: Cannot open connection on TCP/IP network. When I try to join the message is: ERROR: Cannot connect to specified IP address. So my 'puter does not even get a chance to try to connect. If that makes sense. Schrullenhaft
You're absolutely sure you're not using any firewall software such as Zone Alarm ? How do you connect to the internet ? If you go to the Start Menu > Run > type in "winipcfg" what adapters do you get; I assume a "PPP" one (usually for a modem) and possibly another for a network card ? Do you have a modem in this computer ?
Cpl Carrot
I connect using a dail up modem. I am positive there is no fire wall. CMBO works fine and CMBB used to work fine - I have no idea what might have changed. winipcfg produces the correct IP range 202.180 etc. in the PPP adapter. There is no network card to conflict.
Schrullenhaft
The 'OpenPlay' modules, TCPIP.DLL and TCPIP.LIB are the ones for CMBB and not CMBO, correct ? I assume that you would probably get a different error if that were the case, but you may want to recopy the OpenPlay modules from the RAR file on the CD again. Do you have more than one 'dialup location' defined on your computer ? From Control Panels > Internet Options control panel > Connections tab > what do you have defined for your 'Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings' ? I'm wondering if there is something different here compared to who you're actually dialing up to for your internet connection that CMBB is catching.
Cpl Carrot
Ah Schrullenhaft, you are a Saint! Seems my OpenPlay Modules folder had gone AWOL. Its back and a quick test seems to have fixed the problem. My thanks. Cpl Carrot
