Steel1994
It would be a great help if someone could explain how to start a TCP/IP game and where I can find my IP address. Thank you so much! CM is the best Wargame I have ever played!
Tanks a Lot
I don't know what operating system you have, but if you have Windows 98 type winipcfg at the run command. You can also try typing ipconfig /all from a dos prompt.
Steel1994
I do have Win 98 and just typed what you instructed, however my IP address says 0.0.0.0. My DNS Servers says 24.129.0.34. Is this considered my IP address? I am using a cable modem if it makes any difference. By the way thanks for your prompt reply!
Tanks a Lot
Your DNS server is not the same as your IP address. I'm still using a dial-up modem and winipcfg works for me, but I have to be connected or my IP address also says 0.0.0.0. Did you try the ipconfig /all command in dos?
Tanks a Lot
You can also try this site. http://northdelta.net/ipadd.asp
CJMello
Make sure it isn't on PPP adapter. Try AOL adapter if available. On the pull down menu when you use winipcfg. ------------------ Order, Counterorder, Disorder. - von Moltke [This message has been edited by CJMello (edited 03-17-2001).]
Steel1994
I went to the northdelta site and it came right up with my address! Thanks all!
Dirtweasle
You could also start a quick battle in CM, and set up to host the game and it reports back your IP address.
Steel1994
I know my IP address, however I cannot start a game. I go to Join Multiplayer game, then to join network game, I enter his IP address and it says, "ERROR: Cannot connect to specified IP address". I also tried to start a game first, click on TCP/IP in connection type screen, then it asks for a password, I type one and it says, "Cannot open connection on TCP/IP network" How do two players connect using TCP/IP? Thanks!
Tanks a Lot
Make sure both of you are using the latest patch. TCP/IP was not initially supported.
Frenchy
Also be sure you or your opponent is not using some type of Intrusion detector such as Black Ice Defender. Mine prevented me from hosting a TCP/IP game. Also don't forget about firewalls...read the readme file that comes with the latest patch. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
brooktrout
You said that you are using a cable modem. Are you also using a cable/dsl router or firewall/proxy software? If you are, this would affect how your IP address would be seen from the internet. I.E. the router or firewall software act as a proxy server and that proxy server's IP address is what would be seen by your opponent (and vice versa if your opponent is using a router/firewall).
Ellros
Be careful using any of the programs like those Tanks A Lot mentioned, especially if you are on a cable modem. Some of them give an incorrect IP number. I've used that site, and another, and they both give me an IP number that do not match what I actually have via my cable ISP.
Tao Xian
This may be off the mark but you cannot host a game by "Joining Multiplayer". You must "play" a scenario, and then in a later screen, select the game as a TCP/IP game. If you are trying to host a game and use "Join Multiplayer" and type in your own IP address, it will not find a game there, as you are not currently hosting one. Once you have selected your game as a TCP/IP game, the final screen you come to, where it waits for your opponent to connect, should give you your IP address. This would be the IP address to give to your opponent as long as it's not a LAN address from a local router or hub. If you need to, you can hit "escape" at this point to get to another application to send your IP address to your opponent, then reselect CM. You will still be at the screen waiting for the opponent to connect.
