radioman999
I don't know why but it's not easy to get a hold of realistic yet punchy ak 74 sound effects. Most of sound effects I've heard sound pretty artificial, wimpy or taken from over-used sound effect library. If anyone has decent ak74 sound effect, please share. BTW I can put together a small arms sfx pack if anyone is looking for alternatives.
theFightingSeabee
Post it. I've had problems with the small arms. I have juggled tons of sounds and very few sound right. AKD's sounds of bullets whizzing is damn good though. I did try to create a Blue Perspective sound mod a while back, but it wasn't right either. I just haven't been able to find that crisp pop. I'd love to hear what you've got so far.
radioman999
Yeah sure thing, will upload on repository this week. Like you said I've found that gunshots can sound so different even from a same weapon depending on distance, indoor/outdoor, direction, etc. So it's kinda finicky I find. I've experimented with a number of sounds and just edited to fit CMSF. Anyway, hope it can improve the CMSF experience.
theFightingSeabee
Cool. Since I generally play blue vs red (although I do like the red vs red sometimes), I like the gunshots of blue to sound like outgoing and red to sound like incoming. Either way, I'll be anxious to hear your sounds. My sounds right now are a mix of many, so I'll add any I like of your to mine.
akd
I would love to see another take on small arms sounds. I found gunfire to be the most challenging part of compiling my mod, and am still not happy with a number of sounds, or with the hack jobs necessary because of the way sounds are implemented in CM, or because most sounds you can find include gratuitous shell casing effects. One thing you might try to achieve some effect of a "blue" perspective mod would be to install the AKD base mod, then remove all the BlueFor weapon sounds from the "distant guns" option before installing. Luckily most are labelled logically and none are shared between the sides, but just in case here are the file names: grenade launcher m32 grenade launcher m203 grenade launcher mk19 gun 5 m4 0 gun 5 m4 1 gun 5 m16 0 gun 5 m16 1 gun 5 m249 0 gun 5 m249 1 gun 7 m110 gun 7 m240b gun 7 m240c gun 12 m2 That will leave you with the "base mod" blue small arms sounds and the "distant guns" red small arms sounds.

Oooh! I like this idea, since I almost always play as Blue. Thanks for the suggestion, akd.
radioman999
Hey I've just uploaded (twice) my sound mod on the repository. I didn't know the file needs to be approved before being posted. Anyway, the file contains mostly small arms sound but I also included some not so small arms sounds that I thought might be worthwhile. Admittedly, some of the sounds were hard to get it decent (ie. M240s and 20mm Cobra) but I think now they are better than vanilla ones at least. Also, I did not bother messing around with explosion sounds as AKD's sounds are good in that. Yeah so, hope you guys find it useful.

I'll definitely check this out when I get back from S. Carolina next week.
theFightingSeabee
Thanks guys! I'll be mixing and matching. Someday, when I feel all the sounds are perfect, maybe I'll release my favorite batch. Almost all of them are AKD's!
