DLL Sound

Recommended Posts

I just had to have my hard drive reformatted and in re-intalling CMBB, when I try to open the game, I get an error message that reads: "CMBB caused an invalid page fault in Module D Sound.DLL at 0167 beb2bfef.

I tried to do a search here, but didn't find anything that seemed to make sense to me. How do I fix?

What Windows version are you running ? What version of DirectX do you have installed ? What sound card and driver version do you have installed ? Do you know if you have both an on-board (built-in) audio and a seperate audio card ?

This sounds more like a problem particular to your setup than any sort of bug with CM's sound routines (which is probably why you can't find any threads specifically listing your problem).

Windows 98, Direct X 8.1 (Whatever the game takes -- I have)

ESS Solo-1 DOS Emulation and ESS Solo 1PCI Audio Drive.

The game was running fine before I had the restore done.

Do you know which version of the drivers you have for the ESS Solo-1 ? I found a driver listing (ESS Solo-1 for Win98SE listed 12 lines down). I don't know if this driver is any newer or better than what you currently have (which may be quite dated if you installed it off of a CDROM). Here's another listing with the relevant drivers near the bottom (the second from the bottom being the newer of the two).

As far as I'm aware, the DOS Emulation driver isn't necessary unless you intend to play a DOS-based game or program. If you're never going to do that, then I suggest 'commenting out' the appropriate driver lines in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT (with 'rem' in front of the relevant lines).

Schrullenhaft, you bloody genius! It worked like a champ. I'll admit that when it was installing, it said something about a "gameport joystick" being installed and I thought, "Great, I downloaded the wrong fecking file." But I guess not, because CMBB started right up.

If I ever have a firstborn son, I shall name him after you.

Yep, Schrullenhaft Radley. Poor kid. Might as well paint a target on him.

Thanks again.
