Nupremal
Can I use a "Garrison" order to have the AI send a unit to an Island, or do I need to use a Transport Minor order? i.e. will it do the naval transport on its own with just a garrison order?
Hubert Cater
If the unit was connected and within range it will make its way to the desired GARRISON position, but since the position selected is on an island you will need to use the TRANSPORT_MINOR event to get it there first.
Nupremal
Ok - so the transport will do it - garrison won't be needed since it won't go anywhere without another transport mission, though I suppose it may be tapped for an offensive.
Hubert Cater
Probably not as the game engine looks for connected units for OFFENSIVE planning etc.
Nupremal
hmmm... what if there aren't any? I have some pretty large areas that are "unconnected" because there are no major nation capitals - most of Asia, all of Africa, Australia, etc... This is not so bad as these areas have very weak infrastructure, but I hope they are not ignored by the scripts then. It seems to work from what I can see.
Hubert Cater
The game engine also assigns OFFENSIVE/DEFENSIVE scripts generically if there are no scripted plans that take priority... perhaps this is what you have seen.
Nupremal
Probably - but I guess my question is this. If I have say a whole bunch of Japanese in China, and I script some sort of offensive, will it be ignored because they are not connected to Tokyo?
Hubert Cater
Yes, you need to specify a #FRIENDLY_POSITION that the units are connected to. So this would have to be one in mainland China in order for the scripts to fire your desired OFFENSIVE scripts. In fact this is the general rule for all scripts that the #FRIENDLY_POSITION must be connected to your #GOAL_POSITION etc.
