markshot
I may be spending 1-2 months in the Far East (Macau near Hong Kong) next year. I may have access to a PC there and I was looking to play some CMBO to pass the time. Assuming the hardware meets the CMBO requirements and I have my installation CD am I going to have any problems installing/running CMBO on a non-US and non-English version of Windows? Thank you.
Schrullenhaft
With most non-English versions of Windows I wouldn't assume that there would be problems with CM. With 'double-byte' character versions of Windows (Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Arabic and some others) there might be a problem. Under Windows 2000 & XP I assume Unicode can work without providing too much of a problem, but I'm not sure. With Windows 9x/ME there may be a problem with the 'double-byte' characters. The File Save/Open dialogs will be based on the specific language version (Cantonese (?) or Portugese in your specific case) and it may be a problem to save these files and have them display correctly in CM. Most text in CM is hard-coded to my knowledge (i.e. - not dependent on the OS to display specific characters). The only problems are usually the filenames and how those may display in the scenario/op listing (which might crash if the characters aren't recognized or using 'double-byte' data to represent them). Other than that I would assume that CM should still work. [ September 14, 2002, 07:24 PM: Message edited by: Schrullenhaft ]
Viceroy
Markshot, I've been using CMBO on Chinese W98 with no problems for the last 2 years. The CMBB demo also works fine too.
