Swift
I currently play the campaign on Veteran level and I am curious how spotting works. In the "High Points, Low Points" scenario I have a platoon of Bradley's carrying scout units. I noticed that the unit that spotted the most enemy contacts where the buttoned scout unit. How come? Would not the Bradley have better vision then a soldier inside it?
Bradley Dick
Yes, if he was looking at that area. But there are periscopes in the troop area. Maybe this is modeled in the game.
Swift
Ah, I did not know that. However the scouts has much better spotting then the Bradly, not just to one unit (which could be explained by the scopes) but to 6-8 units where the Bradly did not see anyone at all (that is only had ? marks).
Bradley Dick
Oh, another thing I noticed last night..... Although the Bradleys in game don't have the actual 3 person crew that they do in real life, passengers will take up the Bradley Commander slot in the turret. That could be why the passengers are spotting. I think, in fact, that is exactly why they do it. Next time you dismount passengers, watch how one of your guys hops out of the turret.
Yardstick
I saw that once, but it was the PL. I haven't seen the dismount SQDs do that.
Swift
The passengers take the commanders spot? If so they should atleast communicate with the gunner and driver...
Bradley Dick
I'm not sure if ALL squads do it. But, like Angryson said, I have definitely seen leadership squads do it.
Swift
Just tested a scout unit that indeed took the "commanders place" in the turret. Is this really how it's done in RL?
thewood
Also, how do you get the two knuckleheads in the back of a Stryker to button up? They are always getting hammered by MG fire from a distance.
Bradley Dick
No, that is not how it happens in real life. At least you don't let them do anything. You might let somebody ride in the turret, but you wouldn't let them touch anything.
