Stefan Fredriksson
I am on 1.05, and I've noticed verrrry slow loading times for some things. For instance Elsdorf (medium) takes forever to load, whereas the operation Drive to Mortain loads normally. Granted I haven't run any of the scenarios in 1.03 since I'm new to the game. Any ideas as to why two medium scenarios can differ so much in load time? The Elsdorf can take 1-2 minutes from load start to password screen, and after that 2-4 more minutes for map to show up.
Schrullenhaft
I personally haven't looked at this issue. I wonder if it is an issue of the number of textures each scenario uses. Other than that I wouldn't expect anything that different in regards to scenario load times between the two versions of CM.
Kingfish
I've noticed that myself and found a feature common with the slow-loading scenarios: snow. Elsdorf, Merry x-mas at Herm(?), One long cold day, all have snowy landscapes and are very slow in loading. I found other huge (non-snow) scenarios load just fine for their size. ------------------ Charlie don't surf!
Stefan Fredriksson
Kingfish, you may be on to something there... I sort of dismissed the idea, since in another medium-operation (A day in the cav) you have snow *falling*. But when I think back, the ground isn't *covered* with snow in that one. Thanks.
Fred
I've noticed that in all scenarios with snow on the ground, the game accesses the CD drive while loading the 3-D images (even with a full install). Maybe this causes the delay? Kingfish
Just to be sure I ran a test last night. I loaded the "Saar" scenario (small, snow on the ground) and then Carentan (huge, bocage). Carentan came in faster although it is easily 3 times the size. Snow seems to have an effect on load time. ------------------ Charlie don't surf!
