Sven
I'm about to buy a laptop with an AMD Turion X2 TL-60 2 Ghz processor and ATI Radeon 1250 Graphics. Is that enough to handle CMSF?
Madmatt
It should be okay but your best bet is to download the demo and test its performance before you purchase the full game. Madmatt
Sven
OK, I'll do that. But one more question on the same topic (I'm lazy now, I know); How will it perform on my four year old desktop: AMD XP 2500+ (1.83 Ghz), 1 Gig RAM, GeForce FX5200?
Schrullenhaft
It should work on your desktop system. The GeForce 5200 isn't a good performer, so you may need to set the '3D Texture Quality' and '3D Model Quality' settings to 'balanced' or lower ('fast', 'faster', 'fastest'). Set 'Vertical Synchronization' to 'off'. 'Antialias/Multisample' should also be 'off' (not that the 5200 could really do a whole lot in that regard anyway). I'd suggest using a 'Display Size' of '1024x768', unless your actual desktop resolution is that already. If you have a widescreen display, you'll probably get pretty bad performance using the display's native resolution ('Desktop') as your resolution selection. Admittedly performance in a game like this is a bit subjective as to what is acceptable. You might find that your videocard might not be powerful enough to handle CMSF to your tastes, but it should "work". One other exception to that may be 'shadows', which may not display properly with the 5200 (that is just a guess however). You may see a performance boost by turning them off in game (if they do work) with Alt-W.
Sven
OK, thanks. Would you happen to know whether the laptop's Video Card is better or worse than the FX5200?
