Stopping Full-Processor Load in Cm - Possible?

Recommended Posts

OK, I think I am on the trail of a solution for my long time CM problem. In a nutshell, my processor heats up while playing the game until it reaches the point where it becomes either unstable or auto-shuts off.

I believe what is causing this is that CM will use the full processor load allowable when running (Aside - do other games NOT do this? Because I don't have this problem with any other game - weird) OK, so my theory is that when I go into 3D mode, the game will use all resources available (1400 Athon T-Bird) and this is too much for my fan to cool. So, until I can fix the cooling on the computer, is there a way to FORCE the computer to not use all resources?

Does this make sense, or is a wild ass guess? I am no computer tech for sure, just a normal guy tryin' to play the game I love so much...

Minimize CM for awhile and then come back to it. In its minized state it will share the CPU and I believe that it won't be using 100% of the CPU cycles.

So what you would have to do is plot some of your units for a few minutes and then minimize CM for a couple of minutes and then finish your plotting (unless you have a lot of units to plot). Play the movie back once you've finished and then minimize again for a couple of minutes. When you come back to CM you can play the movie again and then plot part of the next turn and then minize again - ad infinitum (or ad nauseam). Hopefully your cooling solution can handle that. It's definitely an annoying solution of 'CM-Interuptus', but it may work in your case.

You SHOULD be able to run the CPU at 100% forver if your cooling is adequate - it might be worth looking at your CPU and Case cooling arrangements and improving those.

As a possible "quick fix", does your BIOS allow you to underclock the CPU from 1400 to 1050MHz?

As a matter of interest, what temperature does your CPU reach?
