Maps

I would like to create some historic battles, and I was wondering about the availability of new maps. I need the Carpiquet Airfield just outside of Caen, and the Caen maps don't extend out that far. How are maps created? Are there more maps coming? Do any of the maps have an airfield that I can use until I can create the authentic one?

Why have they killed the option to edit. If they want for this game to survive then mods are the only way for it.

Look at close combat community. After more then 10 years and it's still alive. Why cause of the mods.

I too would really like to see a "FULL" Map editor capable of using DTED and contour data and able to place roads, rivers etc available at some stage. I am interested in designing mission/missions based on Operation Jupiter and the fighting around Hill 112 in Normandy in July 44. There is a serious disproportion of British missions in the Allied campaign when you consider the ferocity of the fighting around Caen after D-Day. I hope more mission designers will come up with Brit/Canadian missions for this period.

For a really dedicated modder the information is out there to do some really nice work in Western Europe these days as aerial photographs from the period are now available for most areas where combat occurred. Add it to some height maps and away you go. I agree mods (plus extra stuff via add-ons) is definitely the way to go with this game.

Have fun

Hi PanzerMeyer,

I've read "Caen: Anvil Of Victory" and found it to be one of the best military history books I've read.

I have also read a good book about Hill 112 which uses similar sources to the previous book. The book is "Hill 112 : cornerstone of the Normandy campaign " by J.J. How.

A very good tank sim on the playstation called "Panzer Front" featured a mission with the player command German Pz IVs defending hill 112.

Hi Narsil,

Yes i've read Hill 112 by Maj How as well and it is a great book on the subject. I am in process of gathering info on all aspects of this battle to possibly write my own book on it in a couple of years time.

I am still serving in the military at the moment but i finish my time next year and am moving to Australia so i am trying to gather as much info as possible before i end up down under.

Never written a book before but i guess all authors have to start somewhere!! I am trying to get in touch with some of the few veterans of the battle from both sides to get their stories, but their numbers are sadly dwindling fast. It is for them that i want to write the book. Lest we forget.

Another good book on the battle is "Normandy: Hill 112 - The Battle of the Odon " by Tim Saunders in the Battleground series. It is heavily illustrated and is great for battlefield tours.

Not heard of the PS game, my daughter has a PS but i dont really play it however good to know that quality tank/war games show up on that platform too.

All the best
