Hi PanzerMeyer, I've read "Caen: Anvil Of Victory" and found it to be one of the best military history books I've read. I have also read a good book about Hill 112 which uses similar sources to the previous book. The book is "Hill 112 : cornerstone of the Normandy campaign " by J.J. How. A very good tank sim on the playstation called "Panzer Front" featured a mission with the player command German Pz IVs defending hill 112. [ June 04, 2007, 11:39 PM: Message edited by: Narsil ]
  2. I have problems with very low fps when I try to move the camera. This happens regardless of the number of units on the map. When I turned the shadows off ToW ran a lot smoother. In fact I can run the game with the other settings on high as long as the shadows are off. I'm guessing that the shadows are more of a drain on the GPU than the CPU? Is that correct? [ May 24, 2007, 10:14 PM: Message edited by: Narsil ]
  3. Hi guys, I just received the game DVD. I installed the game form the DVD and downloaded the patch file and installed that too. The "configure" program reports the error: "Dll library rts.dll cannot be loaded" The mission editor gives me a "wrong game version" error. The game won't load, the tow.exe appears in the processes list in task manager for a few seconds and disappears. I'm running XP SP2 on a Athlon64 CPU and a 6600GT gfx card. I had no problems with the demo and am surprised that the DVD version is failing. I've had a quick look in the game directory but can't find any log files that might give myself and a tech so clue as to what is going on. Has anyone else with the DVD version been able to run the game? Help! ---- Whoops never mind - after reading the troubleshooting pages discovered that I also had the DEP issue. After a quick hack of the boot.ini the game runs fine [ May 16, 2007, 03:13 AM: Message edited by: Narsil ]
  4. My copy arrived today in New Zealand - on the same day I got broadband So the snail-mail copy beat the d/l copy!
  5. I agree that the time frame of a ToW mission is too short for medics to "heal" the critically wounded. But medics can still have an affect, especially on the soldier's morale. A squad that has untreated wounded would be less likely to advance (leaving the wounded behind) and may suffer a drop in morale if forced to leave the wounded. Thus the medic by stabilising or at least tending the critically wounded would allow the squad to become active again.
  6. I think Matt has posted that the DVD were about to ship on the third. It should take two to four weeks to reach us downunder, so I'm afraid we'll be waiting for a bit longer.
  7. I've seen this mentioned before on this forum.... In the Russian site there are a set of images of the MAP editor showing the placement of trees and houses. ToW Ru homepage It is not clear from the images is the terrain/elevations are modifiable... time will tell
  8. Are you guys talking about the Demo version or the full game. In the demo there are three PzIIIs in the second wave. So far the best I've managed is to immobilize one. For the first wave I usually place the AT guns close to the trenches so they can be re-crewed quickly. Use the AT guns to attack the PzIIIs and leave the PzIIs for the anti-tank rifles.
  9. My rig is: AMD 64 3000 6600GT 128MB VRam 1Gb Ram I haven't experienced any lag (yet) but the load times have been loooong. I had task manager running while playing and notice that when the mission loads my page file increased to over 1GB. According to task manager ToW was using 700MB of memory. So I would support Martin's observation that the system ram is the bottle neck. However other recent games like CoH and BF2142 have also been causing my system to swap so I wasn't too surprised. Based on my experience I like my next purchase will be another 1GB of memory.
