Barkhorn1x
By popular demand (OK – only Dorosh ), the ad that kicked off the Squad Leader revolution. It appeared in The General magazine in Vol. 14, Issue #2 (July-August of 1977). I clearly remember that I never saw board or counter art that looked anything like it and pretty much placed my order that day (w/ my paper route money ). Who can forget “The Guards Counterattack”, t@#%*&^ Programmed Instruction, moving around Sgt. Hamblen or knocking over a Leader/2 Squad/1 LMG/4 Panzefaust stack? Ahh, the memories – and a damn good bargain for $12.00 – even 29 years ago! One can see the SL heritage shinning through in CM and countless other games less worthy. So here comes your trip down memory lane: Barkhorn.
RMC
Never saw that full page ad before, but I've seen that stock photo of the game before. Maybe in a hobbyist catalog.
Michael Dorosh
Thanks Barkhorn - there is a similar ad in the Fire & Movement issue in 1977 where the game is first discussed; was just glancing at that last night. Thanks for the pic, very interesting! Love that purple boxtop.
