Routing? Surrendering? Everyone can't possibly fight to the death (EDIT:I was wrong)

Recommended Posts

Apparently everyone in the year 2008 has become some sort of drug induced psycho that can fight to the death. Even U.S. troops won’t break and run. If they are cowering just wait they will get right back in the fight. 1 vs 100? Sure why not, I just watched 300 and if Leonidas can stand then why can’t I? Just saw 8 of my buddies mowed down, my Stryker is a burning hulk, that invulnerable M1 looks like Swiss cheese, but I’m feeling much better now. I think I’ll start shooting back with my small arms at some armor, not crawl away and change my shorts. tongue.gif

Where did surrendering go? Breaking and running? Capturing? Really we have Abu Ghraib and Gitmo. Let’s put some enemy combatants there. Hope I didn’t offend anyone who has family there. ;)

Seriously why doesn’t anyone route or at the least move away? I hope it’s a bug that will be addressed. I really want to like the game but there are just some tiny things that are making it a Love/Hate relationship.

I stand corrected. Sorry about that BFC I should never have doubted you guys. The more I play the better this puppy is looking.

Here is the evident to the contrary. I rarely ever prove myself wrong, but I have to man up and say they did include it in the game

After my battle at the Airfield with the Syrian Spec Forces I was convinced no one ever surrendered or routed. In that scenario it may be the case of their fanaticism is so high, they want a Jihad. Thinking back now I understand why the Regulars pulled out after our air strike. I then was lead to the High Point Low Point scenario where Syrian regulars and reserves were engaged by a Recon unit followed up by a Stryker Plt. I took an overwatch position on the Left Ridge line and started hammering the valley with 2 Brad Cav Scouts. I saw 2 members of an HQ unit pop and exclamation marker over their heads then a couple of seconds later the vanished. They were not injured or killed out right. They were immediately removed from the list of the unit. The casualties were listed. These guys just bugged out. So it would appear that units don’t run back to the rear like CMx1. When someone Routes they just disappear. I can live with this. I have to admit got tired of gunning down routing troops in the old days.

Don't understand why they didn't include surrendering in this version. In the older titles it was a bit of pain, granted, marching the POWs to the back of your front line. And they often had to be escorted by *several* precious friendlies due to the absence of 1:1 representation.

But with the full squad depicted it would have been so easy (methinks) to simply abstract a single member out of the battle along with the surrendering troops.

Perhaps it's a can of wyrms they didn't want to deal with.

If you have units trying to surrender, for instance, you might have units shooting them anyway. You might also have units pretending to surrender, and then blowing themselves up or continuing the fight (ambush trigger) when others approach... as well as abusing prisoners as bullet-catchers for recon or so forth.
