More Quick Battle Troubles

Recommended Posts

Just loaded up a small meeting forest (med infanry for blue and heavy infantry for red). OK the map was plain but I did ask for small. The forces were a handful of strykers and infantry vs 11 T72s (that's right 11 tanks in the woods.) I thought these battles had some form of human design to them?

When you want Syrian Infantry you need to ask for infantry. It's pretty clear cut. If you think about it, with CMx1 you had choice limitations by virtue of selecting Combined/All Armor/Inf Heavy. CM:SF Unit selection is essentially the same nomenclature but with out points or cost.

Before THE argument starts in earnest...YES I would like to choose my own troops, too.

The selection is straight forward but CMSF perhaps needs some rules for unit selection per terrain/battle type.

Just experimented by loading a small size with blue heavy infantry and blue only got 4 M1A1s. A mix of tanks and afvs/infantry would be fine. I played the battle and at the end I had a total. However, there were no infantry reinforcments and those 4 tanks fought against around 30 infantry formations - squads and teams. BTW all sides failed to at terrain and parameters - but I was awarded 1000 points (did cause a lot of killed and wounded). Must be a odd parameter setting.

With the small unit sizes it only gives you a single platoon out of the chosen OOB. (in this case heavy inf) Infantry or tank, not half a platoon of one and half a platoon of the other. Once you get to bigger battle sizes things are more representative of the choice you made.

But in the current state I'd have to concur with Adaml. QBs are more trouble then they are worth. Once in a while CMSF might throw a fun QB your way, most times they are SNAFU.

The map was actually very nicely drawn by the designer but far too large for four tanks to operate in. It's really a shame that more attention can't be paid to QBs. Sure, random maps we may never get, but the selection of the right number and type of forces must be within easy reach.
