ZOR58
I noticed in the manual that I should be seeing different colors for in/out of control/command, movement types, and LOS but all of mine appear as blue. Everything else seems to be OK. I am playing CMBO and am using Windows98. Thanks.
Schrullenhaft
More than likely this is due to your video drivers. However there's a good chance that there isn't a fix for this problem. Do you know what video card (or video chip) you have and what version of the driver you have installed ? Do you know which version of DirectX you have installed ?
ZOR58
I am running DirectX 6.1a. My video is S3 VIRGE-DX/GX PCI (375/385)and it is using the driver supplied with Windows98 SE. Everything was working before but I had a harddrive crash and when I got the new drive I also upgraded from 95 to 98 SE. Thanks for the reply
Schrullenhaft
The inaccurate colors you're seeing are very likely due to the S3 drivers. Unfortunately S3 wasn't very good at writing drivers and following up with bug fixes for many games. It's possible that you were using newer S3 drivers in your Win95 setup and these were subsequently overwritten with what was provided with Win98. Compared with the drivers that Win98 supplies, you may be able to find newer ones (though the Virge is a discontinued product and no longer gets driver updates). However I can't seem to hook up to S3Graphics homepage(http://www.s3graphics.com), so you'll need to find the drivers elsewhere (S3 has officially dropped out of the business of manufacturing video chips and sold that division to VIA). Here's one Russian driver site that has some Virge drivers (click on 'download by http:'or ftp, near the bottom). I don't know if upgrading your DirectX version will help or not in conjunction with the new drivers. It might be necessary for the new drivers, but I'm not sure. Upgrading DirectX with your current drivers probably won't solve the problem. Sometimes upgrading video drivers fixes one problem, but causes another, so beware. Your best bet in the long run would be to purchase another video card and replace the S3 card. You can get a pretty good price on a PCI GeForce2 MX400 from several sources on the net or possibly locally.
ZOR58
Thanks for your help. Looking at the system requirements for CMBB it looks like I need to just breakdown and buy a new PC anyway.
