I suddenly thought how easy it would be to defeat the small ion weapons as presented in the game. A simple coating of rock particles with small prismatic silicate "pieces" mixed through an emulsion of calcium silicates, gypsum and magnesium or zinc oxides with an internal mesh to give it flexibility (chicken wire).... Ie a nice thick layer of reinforced concrete. Not even noticable on a thor with an AM motor. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Smeltz Posted September 4, 2006 Share Posted September 4, 2006 If the Ion weapons will "melt" through dense metallic compounds then wouldn't the effect on your concrete be extreme drying (turning it to powder) followed by the melting of chicken wire; causing it to crumble away? Ablative armour would tend to be volume as opposed to weight limited. Vehicles should be designed around fitting on a dropship. That basically sets the total volume you have to work with as far as how BIG you can build your vehicles. Logistics dictate.
