Hi Ray. smile.gif I played the allies, and got WHIPPED by kindred. :( The Flying Tigers I was not. Maybe falling cats. smile.gif The Japanese bombers I couldn't touch. They stopped almost everything I shot at them even the OOTS Cards. You better watch kindred. He has more aces up his sleeve than I do. tongue.gif Good game kindred. I'll get you next time. ;)

I'm playing the camp now against the Axis bots and I must honestly say that the game slowly becomes frustrating when every camp that comes out is almost impossible to win for casual players. :(

I fear this game is heading towards a direction where all those people who can only play a few hours during the weekend will lose interest because they get shot to pieces everytime they try one of the new camps.

See the Flying Tigers camp: the Oscars are virtually invincible and when I managed to down the two Nates that were escorting a pair of Kates by turn 2, I draw ONE SINGLE attack card (IMSD, but of course it was countered) during the rest of the game. :rolleyes:

Come on, ONE stinking card with FOUR planes in THREE turns! That's not funny, that's a joke. :mad:

Maybe a feature where one can adjust the difficulty level of a campaign would help, but the way the game is developing at the moment to my opinion is a bit overdone.

Hi fred I am not understanding. You had bad draws but you think the campaign is designed for only hardcore players?

I guess I will start out by saying that I find FT to be hard as hell as the Japanese to win and easy for the Allies. But it seemes that most players dont win as allies for the reports on the home page. It may just be a matter of style.

There really is no way to make a difficulty specific campaign with the editor. We do try to balance it as best we can and sometimes there have to be historical liberties taken into account to make it more balanced. But if I was to make this campaign totally historical, the Allies would mop the floor with the Japanese.

Last thing I will say is sometimes any campaign can litterly be too easy. Shooting down and killing a few planes in any campaign can really throw off the AI. And the AI really doesnt have great targeting procedures. The testing team are some of the best players in the DIF community, and I will admit that when I see thier scores go from total blow outs to reasonable, I figure its not gonna be too bad.

I guess try it again and if you are still having problems I will try to help you as best I can.

Ihaven't played the substantive version, but Ihad no great trouble winning as allies or Japanese in the playtest versions that I recall - hence I reckoned it was reasonably balanced! smile.gif

Hi all.

Well it is possible to win with the allies.

Mistura did it but the question is :"are the common mortal capable of do it?".

The answer is yes.

I almost did it but the campaign blocked on the last mission.

Resuming my experience

1st turn - very important with 3 fighters dead and 2 heavy bombers bailed out.

2nd and 3rd turn - 1 target off. always let the japs win the 2pts patrol and win the 5pts and draw or win the bombing mission since the bombers were fragile.

4th turn - all out attack for me because i couldn't loose.

so before the last mission i was winning 20-4 and the japs should have won the last mission making it 20-6.

key pts - no target helps alot and the bombers should be priority targets.

Most of the campaigns I've played have seemed resonably balanced.

Crete seems too easily winable as the Germans and Flying Tigers seems tilted to the Japanese. Japs only have two bomber teams so maybe that balances it some, but still this and Crete are the only two that I didn't consider balanced.

Especially when the intro brags of the Flying Tiger 40-1 kill ratio and they seem to have such a tough time in this campaign. Maybe leave the number of planes the same, but switch out one Oscar for a lower quality and/or tweak pilot quality a little more in favor of the Allies.

This campaign is only 1 aspect of the Flying Tiger's time in action tho - most of their fighting was in China, where they ahd a well organised observer corps and often had the positional advantage by the time they attacked.

Hi Crete was much better balanced before the new damage model, but historically, Greece and Crete were complete routs for the Germans. But I havent played either since they patched. I will look into it soon.

Flying Tigers isnt that hard as Allies. I have played through a few turns and I have noticed nothing thats alarming. I think the 40-1 ratio (which is often disputed by historians) is just a watermark for you guys. I just wanted to design it a bit harder to play as Allies. I still for the life of me have no idea how a P-40 could beat a ki-43 in a dogfight, but the tactics the AVG employed arent simulated buy this combat system. They didnt dogfight but used hit and run tactics. Unfortunately you have to dogfight in this game smile.gif We tried to simulate the differences in the planes by giving the P-40's power dive and the Ki-43 Zoom climb. This was Stalins suggestion.

As far as taking out a Ki-43, Of the 299 AVG kills, IIRC like 80% of the fighters killed were Ki-43.

Plus I like seeing people not winning every campaign. :cool:

Not so many Ki-43's tho - mostly Ki-27's and (IIRC) a few Ki-9's (? - their biplane predecessor still in occasional use).

the 27's were the main Japanese Army fighter right up until just before December 41 - the first Ki-43's in SE Asia actually arrived during hte Malaya Campaign, and initial attacks on Burma and Rangoon had only Ki-27's as escorts.
