Think I've rattled on about this one before but....

lets make landing craft be able to only land within 1 movement of a friendly or friendly major port if they want to invade.

Have to work out some exception for Torch....although could use Gibralter to count

then we could stop extreme scenarios about invading USA,.....if Normandy was touch and go with US and Brit fleets...and other ops had to be cancelled then Axis invasion over such a distance was a complete no goer..especially with resources available even with all Europe

Precisely. Nailed that one excellently Gavrok.

The Allies had massive naval and air assets at their disposal for Overlord, a short channel hop in comparison to crossing the Atlantic.

And still, it wasn't easy.

Me, my problem with invasions, still has some work needed.

Overlord landed in Normandy, but has anyone noticed that in SC, you either hit the port of Brest and pound it to rubble and then invade, or a decent German defender likely hands you your butt in a sling.

Any game that systematically makes the historical event not realistic needs adjustment.

If nothing else, the game needs ports that are ports for purposes of unloading or loading, but no major intrisnsic value like the major urban centers.

Torch was risky, and I have read how dangerous it was indeed to ship those troops.

Still it was done. So I can't firmly agree with the 1 move landing.

But still, this game needs something to keep the flights of fantasy in check.

A port Rule was included as a HouseRule in SC limiting the distance one can operate away from your own friendly port, as you guys mentioned Normandy for instance isn't even there as any sort of real location to launch a seaborne invasion, Brest doesn't quite cut it for me! Torch would've been a bit different, walking over a Few French defenders who were supposed to pose no resistance.

Oddly enough Japanese in WW2 were on there way to Midway and other distant Islands in #s, and their Army travelled fairly light but you required special sorts of infantry, Marines ;) Not the regular Majority of an Army. Marines land secure an Airfield or Port so that the Majority of the Men and Equipment of the Army can arrive. That's how it is done. Not just any SC2 Unit should be a amphibious Assualt Weapon. During D-Day only a portion of our Army, what 150 thousand landed on the Beach, but we had many many more men in the Reserve waiting four our Airborne and Marines and other specialists to make a makeshift port, cut off communications, etc... for the Main Body.

So I think that Marine and Paraforces should operate way out of the way, BUT, be very very weak vs Heavy resistance, but you'd quickly have to reinforce these valuable units or lose them forever! as in real war. Crete is the only Airborne OP I recall of WW2 with Pure Use of expensive Airborne and it was foolish and costly of the Highest Quality of the Wermacht
