The Battle Of The Atlantic

was CRUCIAL in WW2

this HAS been represented, but we all know it wasnt really represented in its full scope

IE, surface warships had no effect even wen in the middle of the convoy lanes

and no matter how many uboats u had in the atlantic, the merchant(MPP) losses could only go to to 40 MPP per turn

tho this is quite a drain and can severely hurt britain in the game wen combined with bombing

but i think it should be expanded

the more uboats and the better they are, the more losses shoudl go up

i thnik that perhaps it should be represented in merchant tonnage, and not MPPs, but i have not yet thot of how this could be done

and wat about attacking industry even wen there are units in the same tiles and mine tiles?

The problem with representing the Battle of the Atlantic is the scale of the Atlantic Ocean. If you stick with a 50 mile hex, you would need another four (4) maps the size of the current map in SC.

Even with the expanded tiles in SC2, you won't have enough to represent the Atlantic correctly, unless you change the land scale.

In the past, there has been alot of discussion about "hex representation" vs "abstraction". Personally, I come down on the side of abstraction, since the important thing to me is the land battles on the Eastern Front.

i disagree

i believe the desc for SCET was that u are SUPREME COMMANDER of ALL forces - land AND AIR AND SEA

so this isnt just a land war game

its air and sea

and victory on land cant or at least not easily be won without control of the air

and the allies couldnt have won without control of the atlantic

The Ocean & Sea wars WILL be more detailed and more closely "historical" than it was in SC the Original.

Yet, as you aptly suggest, there DOES need to be some inherent "abstraction" due to the reduced size of the Seas, in relation to the critical land masses.

You wouldn't want to have to search all over the place... until yer eye-balls bulge & bleed... for those tiny fleets and ASW and U-boots, true?

Land, Sea and Air... each appropriately modeled, and relatively important, and in general, much different than it was before. And, yes JPW, it will be... quite simple and intuitional to Edit, as you please. ;)

And the new! game will remain... easy to access and understand (... though, it WILL be a bit more challenging to plan out the MANY possible Strategies & Tactics) ALL the new features, and very best of all... FUN to play. :cool:
