Edwin P.
I like how HC has designed the Diplomacy system in SC2 to reflect the random effect of diplomatic efforts on influencing a nation. pzgndr posted November 07, 2004 10:02 AM 1. Yes, the way it's set up is each major can have a max number of chits. Now I'm assuming this means max in play at any given time, that chits will be become available again once diplomacy runs its course and a target country activates one way or another, and perhaps players can reclaim chits if they want to. This is still under development so it's hard to say exactly. ....And while there are not any diplomacy events per se, there are political events and activation events that can be used to affect the diplomatic situation based on game events. Recall in SC1 how Allied abandonment of Med positions results in increased Italian war readiness. Similar events and more can happen in SC2. 2. No limits for what can go into any one country, other than the limit of how many chits you can have. These chits are not cheap, mind you, so you'll have a tough decision whether to buy units, research or diplomacy. In a future update or version (ie SC3) I would like to see this expanded to where a nation could also use diplomatic chits to achieve specific results short of convincing a nation to ally itself with you. For example: The UK would, in addition to being able to spend a diplomatic chit to encourage a nation to ally with itself could use it to select from series of actions that show up by selecting that nation on the world map. Example: UK Selects Spain Option 1) Convince Spain to mobilize an additional corps Option 2) Activate Spanish Partisans Option 3) Standard Diplomatic Activity Option 4) Spain Allows UK to station Air Unit in Spain for observation Purposes Only - ie UK can operate Air Unit to Spain and can use it to spot Axis troop movements. This unit is expelled back to UK if Spain later joins Axis. Option 5) Reduce trade with Axis UK Selects Turkey Option 1) Standard Diplomatic Activity Option 2) Activate Turkish Partisans Option 3) Transit Rights through the Bosphorous (10%) for British, French and American Units (not Russian!) Option 4) Stop Trade with Axis [ July 04, 2005, 02:49 PM: Message edited by: Edwin P. ]
John DiFool the 2nd
Good. I disliked how Clash of Steel did this- typically you just pumped in all political points you had to the target and hoped it would join you (typically Spain). Chits as long-term investments makes more sense.
Retributar
And on top of Chit investment...a countries success or lack of it could result in an adjustment of ones previous investments...either propelling them forward to a speedier conclusion or to end up floundering...becoming less potent or forceful in the final result. Your investment in Chits...should never be expected to give you any guaranteed result. If your country flounders in the fortunes of war...some, or all of your investment could be flushed down the toilet!.
