Valley Of Gamey Troubles

I'm playing the demo, _V of T_ scenario, and I'm trying to play it in a strategically intelligent way, if you know what I mean, but I can't avoid the fact that what seems to work best, or maybe the *only* thing that "works" well is to send a tank on a full Hail Mary end run behind the AT pillbox and shoot it through the door.

Most of the rest of the army could just as well take a nap, really- all I need is a few turns of smoke to get my one tank way off to the side...

So, this is what I think you call "gamey", right? It works in the game, but not in reality, meaning I'm exploiting a weakness of the game.

But other methods aren't so hot- the idea of getting a flamethrower all the way over there has proven laughably impossible. A couple seconds on the field and they're dead.

The engineer guys, well... sometimes I can get them over there in time, but... I don't know, I guess I'm just wondering how I'm "supposed" to do this...?
