Hortlund
Anyone have the pre war population of this little town? Or better yet, a city map or something like that? Im talking about the small village on the Smolensk-Moscow highway of 1941 fame.

Pzman
You wont find much on the net, at least that is my experience. Short of going out and buying maps you may be out of luck. Another problem is a modern map isn't much help because in a lot of cases the cities and/or towns have changed since WWII, although they are better than nothing. dima
The closest there is 11.8 thousand in 1939. Source is here (if you can read russian) http://www.mojgorod.ru/moskovsk_obl/mozhajsk/index.html Can't find the map though. Just one thing I know - the city wasn't completely destroyed since they managed to save many historical monuments.
Hortlund
Ahh thanks. I find it peculiar that the city wasnt destroyed since it was the scene of such heavy fighting for the better part of two weeks. Do you have more information about the town? All I have to go on is two old black and white photos that doesnt really show that much of the town.
