Colonel_Klink
For some reason, sometimes when I'm moving a squad around, they will target another squad. The problem is, they target their own sides squads. They'll rotate and aim for a second, then swivel back and go on their way. They never open fire or anything. This gets highly annoying when it happens in battle.
Kingfish
If it's happening at night or in heavy fog then it's normal. Troops will target their own due to the low visiblity and confusion of battle. Sometimes they will even fire on their own men. For German SMG squads in particular, the most dangerous thing to them in night battles is not the enemy but the squad advancing next to them.
Ex Bellator
Kingfish is exactly right, in low visibility battles troops will often target (and occasionally fire at) nearby friendlies. Low quality troops are particularly likely to do this so stand well clear of any conscripts at night.
