  1. I had an easy time of the Tutorial with the Russians. Which was odd, because I almost always got reamed whenever I played CMBO. I kept my tanks to the left, took out the AT gun and then moved them in towards the flag. Mg's and the mortar were held back in the center patch of pine's to give covering fire for my men to move down the center. The Germans got beaten pretty badly.
  2. Well, if it makes you feel any better Berkut, I've owned the game pretty much since it came out and played it regularly (never left my hard drive once). Since then, I've never won a single battle against the AI at all, unless the odds are so ridiculously high in my favor I'd have to be braindead to lose. I fear what would happen to me if I were to even attempt to play a human being.
  3. fraxis97@twcny.rr.com Those mods are simply amazing. I'm up for a change, especially the roof tiling. It looks really nice.
  4. That is definately a good looking mod. It goes very well with the building mods you have.
  5. I believe I first heard of Combat Mission at Adrenaline Vault's reviews page. I was browsing through, and it caught my eye. I read the review, downloaded the demo and was amazed. It was one of the first wargames to actually interest me in a long time. After that, I quickly ordered it.
  6. Once Combat Mission is in your grasp, all will be right with the world.
  7. I thought they were supposed to seek nearest cover not occupied by enemy troops?
  8. Well, today I was playing a scenerio and at the beginning I decided for a change of pace, and would go it the slow way and move carefully. One of my more glaring weaknesses is moving my tanks ahead of my infantry. I also decided for a change of that, and kept my tanks behind or beside my infantry. Another thing that hindered me was my lack of forethought. I might recognize a likely place of where the enemy might be, but I never thought beyond that (ie, where to attack from, what might the enemy have there, should I sneak in, move or rush?). Changed for the scenario as well. I took a good long time at the beginning to decide how I'd move my men and what I wanted to do with them, and how I would use my armor in combination with them. Much to my surprise, I did very well. I timed my infantry jumps, and used my tanks to pin down the enemy while they did so. I'm about 20 turns into the 35, with 1 flag under my control and two left to go (the mass of the enemies units seemed to be around that 1 flag, which was located in a small town). About half of my squads are in top shape, with the rest having a loss of 1-3 men per squad. All my armor is currently with me. Hopefully, I will make it and win the rest of the map.
  9. Hrmm, I've never really noticed direct fire having much use. I mean, I've seen several enemy squads have about 5 incoming infantry and tank lines of fire coming at them, and they stand up without getting down or stop firing for about 7 turns. By then, I'd wasted a lot of ammo for just a few units who wouldn't become pinned and let my units get close.
  10. Alrighty, say I have an encounter with an enemy group, a couple of squads of no particular make-up (smg, rifle, etc.). Now, say I wanted to put suppressive fire on them to keep em down to the ground so I could send a few squads in close to beat em around and push them back. To do those, would the squads I want to do the covering aim directly at the enemy, or use area fire in the general area of where they are?
  11. For some reason, sometimes when I'm moving a squad around, they will target another squad. The problem is, they target their own sides squads. They'll rotate and aim for a second, then swivel back and go on their way. They never open fire or anything. This gets highly annoying when it happens in battle.
  12. Grrr. Just did a QB today. I decided to restrict everything to infantry on both sides (I hate armor unless it's forced on me in a scenario), with my men being high quality and the AI's being low. Now, in game my men are crack and elite and from what I could shortly see, there's was mostly green. Now, game starts, and I move my men slowly forward to a town located in center of map. I do it carefully and make sure my men cover each other. Eventually I run into the allies, coming out of forested area. Now, by this time I have my men in town. The allied's green infantry come out of the forest to the town and the flag point. Somehow, even with relatively even forces and decent planning on my part, my men run scared into buildings and usually back out of town. And their guys, under heavy fire from us (until all my guys ran out) keep moving forward and putting my guys back. I even notice the AI's HQ's aren't even visible and are probably still in forest, where as my guys are in command with most of the commanders having attack and morale bonuses. I end up losing horribly because my guys end up getting shot in the backs while running away. Talk about absolutely sickening. [ 07-19-2001: Message edited by: Colonel_Klink ]
  13. Can someone list off some good scenarios to play against the AI for a Beginner - Medium skilled player?
  14. I've often heard some people mention keeping space between your squads. What's the recommended minimum distance to keep squads apart?
