Title: Tiger Woods

Type: German/American Meeting engagement

Date: January 1st, 1945

Location: West of Rimling, France

Weather: Clear Skies, Snow

Length: 35

On December 31st, 1944 at 23:30 hours, operation "NORDWIND" was launched by the Germans in the Alsace-Loraine region. The 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division, "Gotz von Berlichingen" struck south with fanatical furry along a line east to west from Bliesbruck to Rimling, France. Attached to the 17th was a contingent of "Jagdtiger" heavy tank destroyers. While elements of the US 100th Infantry Division held tenaciously at Rimling, the 17th SS Panzer-Grenadiers penetrated the line held by the 44th Infantry Division into the Bliesbrucken Woods. By morning the 44th was engaged in a fierce struggle to retake the woods...

Authors Note: This is a "semi-historical" battle. While the 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division did thrust into the Bliesbrucken Woods in the matter of a few hours, It took the Germans a couple of days to move up their Armor. This was due to icy road conditions and the fact that when the Germans pulled out several months before, their engineers did too good of a job on the roads and bridges. While it is doubtful that any Jagdtiers were engaged within the woods, I just could not resist using the title "Tiger Woods". I have constructed this battle to accommodate slower CPU's and appeal to both "head-to-head" and single player mode.

I just started to play this one last night v. AI. I really meant to be asleep by 1am, but I couldn't make myself save the game until 2am and then I had to turn my PC off real fast before I changed my mind.

I like the terrain and atmosphere is pretty cool. I got lucky when a Tiger came blundering along in the woods and my Sherman got a perfect shot at its rear and took it out.

During one turn, the Sherman that nailed that target blew up in front of me and I could not figure out what happened. After much looking around, 1/4 way across the map was a King Tiger peeking out of the woods! I should say, the muzzle of the King Tiger.

I'm going to wrap it up tonight. Lots of burning armor all over the map.... Unfortunately, some of its mine.

I had a blast with this scenario! There were especially tense moments when I was moving to engage the Germans, I had my infantry out in front and put a couple Shermans on some high ground with a good LOS.

Lo and behold the Tiger slowly came around a curve in the road about 150m from the hill my Shermans were on. I was holding my breath to see who would get off the first round as the turrets of the the Shermans and the Tiger started rotating towards each other.

I actually did a few screen captures, but I can't post them here because they could be considered spoilers. I have to say there werea couple NASTY surprises smile.gif. The screen captures document the aftermath of them.

I'm glad the scenario provided you some good "pucker factor"! I would love to see the last autosave. You could email it to me if you are so inclined. As always, I welcome constructive criticism in order to make the scenario better for all.

Thanks again for the feed back!
