Eustace
I am trying to play CMBO against my brother who has a pc in the next room via a network card, but when I click on TC/IPX button I'm asked for an IP address. I know his IP address but my computer tries to dial up an internet connection through my modem. Does anybody know the correct proceedure for us to link up? We're both very keen on this game and it's shame if we can't play together.
Schrullenhaft
Make sure your "Subnet Mask" is set to 255.255.255.0 on both computers and that the IP addresses are unique, but in the same range (i.e. - 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3). An user in the past suggested this for the 'dialing up the Internet to make a connection problem'. From the Dial Up Networking folder, edit your dialup connections (right click, Properties) and there should be a checkbox that says something like "do not connect if network connection present" when checked the behaviour goes away. However I've been unable to find this particular setting under Win98SE (which was the original OS that the user was working with). The closest thing I've found is to do this (though it may not work): Go to the Dial-Up Networking folder in My Computer > on the main menu go to Connections > Settings... menu item > under the section 'When establishing a network connection:' select 'Don't prompt to use Dial-Up Networking'. I'm guessing that this setting is what the original poster of this solution had in mind.
