Demo Problem

Recommended Posts

We'll need more details in order to help you.

What are you seeing on the screen when your computer locks up ? Do you ever see any of the graphics on screen or is everything just black ? Do you hear any sounds from your speakers ? When you initially started up the

game did you get a black screen with text in the center telling you what resolution you were running ?

What kind of components (video card brand, sound card, CPU, amount of memory, etc.) and what platform (Mac or PC) are you running. It is possible that you are not meeting the hardware requirements for CM.

Finally, there is a chance that you may have a corrupted download. Did everything extract for you ?

Combat M demo version 1.02

I have just downloaded the demo from this page. Got the PKSFX thing on my desktop so I opened that up. Ran a test that went OK and it loaded onto my C drive.

Opened up the file, the BMP WAV and SCENARIO files are all separate. Clicked on the CM.exe, the screen flashes black and then my machine locks up. CM does not respond so I have to close it.

I’m running a P3 500mhz 800*600 with an 8 meg graphics card and a Voodoo2 3D accelerator. I have DirectX 7 and the latest patches for the cards.

What is going on??? This is really annoying after the 1h45 min download.

HELP ME QUICK CAUSE I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME. EVERYONE SAYS IT'S COOL AND I WANNA BE A PART OF IT..

Well a funny thing happend.

I no I have directX 7 and all the latest drivers.

I have no problem with any other games even 3D ones that need a lot of power.

I changed my screen res to 800*600 and tried the game again. Bingo it worked. I got all the "vairify screen res in 3d & 2D" stuff.

Did that and got into the game.

Cool.

Selected a scenario and it started to load up. Now it crashes when trying to load the 3D files.

This is becoming a real pain as I have spent an entire evening on this.

I'm going o see if I can get any more updats for my graphics cards and hope it works then but it's a pest.

This MB seems to be over run with problems but SOMEONE please take a second to HELP me out.

I don't want to end up some sad 40 year old ditting infront of a screen trying to get this damn demo to work. The clock is ticking and my hair is getting whiter.

flutter,

1. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your Voodoo2. They change frequently. Also, you may want to try drivers from the card maker and (separately) a "reference driver" directly from 3dfx.com.

2. Try updating to DirectX v7.0a.

3. Update your mouse driver.

4. Check out the 'troubleshooting' section in the demo HTML documentation.

Cheers mate. I got the latest download from 3Dfx and I already have direct 7.

I got it to work and put everything to 640,480.

I actually got to play both missions on the demo without any problems or any lockup.

However after compleating them and wanting a crack at playing against the US I tried again.

Now I'm back to problem No1. The game wont boot up at all and the screen flashes black before returning to a locked up state in windows.

I have tried re-loading the demo several time but it wont work.

However the game is really cool. I loved it and it doesn't even play like a Turn Based.

This game is great but I am put off buying the full version just in case I get the same problems.

I will see if I can get any more patches for my cards and I hope to get a TNT32meg 2D/3D card soon so that may help.

Any other ideas?
