RCrawford
I had one of the Bad CD's and followed the instructions for adding the missing Scenario and WAV files. Clicked on app icon and the graphics pref routine came up--but the text was a bit corrupted (don't know if that means anything). Had to delete the Prefs file and retry a few times but I got it to accept 1024x768 res and the game went on to the main screen. All game option selections work fine but when I try to load the scenario the game hangs displaying a "Loading 3-D graphics" box. I have a Hercules Prophet 4500 (Kyro II) with all the latest drivers (heck, it even runs Grand Theft Auto III) and DirectX 8.1b is installed. Any help? Thanks. AbramsOnPoint
If you're loading a map with a lot of damage, it could take some time. Try a QB with damage set to high, see how long it takes, then try a similar size QB with damage set to none.
Schrullenhaft
Sounds like you're running on Win9x/ME. The text problem is a driver problem with the Kyros and it requires a registry setting to fix with the latest drivers (earlier ones have the problem too). As for hanging on 'Loading 3D Graphics', what are your DirectX settings ? I suggest using the 'defaults' for now (Control Panel > Display control panel > Settings tab > Advanced... button > 3D Optimization tab > Direct3D tab). If you want to get rid of some of the transparency problems you can check the 'Enable External Depth/Stencil Buffer' and it's subitem 'Enable Depth/Stencil Buffer Storing' in the Direct3D tab of the 3D Optimization tab. Read this thread for more details on the text problem and how to fix it.
RCrawford
Thanks for the suggestions but changing the damage level at the start made no difference. The strange thing is that CMBO runs fine. I'll try loading the 3d defaults, but, besides the stencil buffer chnages (which I made to get SHogun: Total War to run), they are already at their default settings. Does enabling the external depth/stencil buffer really cause a big hit in performance? I hate to make all these changes for one game. --Bob Crawford
RCrawford
Thanks all. I finally got the text clear by editing the registry as sugested on the tech thread, and got beyond the "Loading 3-D graphics" screen by turning off the stencil buffer loading on my Hercules Kyro II card. A lot of work, but hey that's why I own a PC not a console.
