EvoRoadster
How do you use a mortar when the max LOS is less than 100m such as occurs during rain/fog/night? [ January 31, 2002, 11:47 AM: Message edited by: EvoRoadster ]
Mud
Use an HQ to provide spotting; the HQ will be closer than 100m to the enemy, but hopefully the mortar team is far-enough back. This might work better w/ a Command-bonus HQ to get some distance between the two. (Well... there's at least one mortar without a minimum range, correct? Might be the British 2". So you may be able to use that one w/ direct spotting, even at night.)
Conscript Bagger
I haven't tried it, but on-board mortars should be able to fire at TRPs at night just like during daylight (since their ability to do so depends not on LOS but on remaining stationary all game). Holien
The Brit 2" is great and will fire at any range within its maximum range. It is not limited to a minimum range. The idea of using a +2 Command HQ is good and it will just about work depending on sighting abilities. TRP use is very effective and the only way to go at night and very limited sighting lines. Just remember that once you have moved your Mortar team it can no longer fire at the TRP. Your Arty spotters are however not affected by this rule so they can move around and still fire at the TRP from their new location. If you can always buy some TRP's as they are worth their weight in gold when used well. Just ask CDIC who is attacking me at night. H
