Joe Bob
newbie here, i have 56k modem and want to play other peaple, what would be the best way, tcp/ip or pbem? thanks
Soddball
I've been playing PBEM for some time now, and have just started trying TCP/IP. The main downsides of TCP/IP over a 56k modem are: 1) Takes a while to transfer turn details, so you need to stick with smaller battles (2,500pts or so) 2) Unless you have a dedicated phone for the modem, you can expect to tie up the line for 1-2 hours, or more, dependent on game and turn length. PBEM is slower and you don't get the same rush that you do with TCP/IP, however.
Ted
If it's your 1st time playing TCP start with something on a small map with not to many troops. I'd go with 1000pts or maybe less just to get the feel of talking on the "radio" feature and how long it takes to transfer turns. I'd try a meeting engagement too. Sitting on defense waiting for the attack can get a little dull You can choose a time limit but don't forget you can always disable it for a turn if you and your opponent agree. But by all means start a PBEM game ASAP. The AI is nothing like a human opponent.
