wodasini88
this is a little something I cooked up after seeing a similar paint job in the book Panzer Aces. PS: yes I was listening to when the tigers broke free by pink floyd while I made this

Gen-x87H
Actually I have always wondered. Roger Waters dad was killed in WWII. #1 Listening to the song it sounds like a battle at Anzio between the Royal Fusiliers and a German unit that had Tigers. #2. Does any one of you grogs know whether Waters father was part of this unit? I remember reading his father died fighting the Germans in WWII. WHich is one of the reasons the Wall resembled a mocked up Nazi theme. #3. Is this battle correct? Did it really happen? MY history on some of these battles is shady sometimes. But I think I remember reading about the Royal Fusiliers at least in the Invasion of Sicily. I never really thought much of the song until I actually listened to the lyrics. Phantom Captain
here's the words for those that don't know it. When the Tigers Broke Free - Pink Floyd It was just before dawn One miserable morning in black 'forty four. When the Forward Commander was told to sit tight When he asked that his men be withdrawn. And the Generals gave thanks As the other ranks Held back the enemy tanks for a while. And the Anzio Bridgehead was held for the price Of a few hundred ordinary lives. And kind old King George Sent Mother a note When he heard that father was gone. It was, I recall, in the form of a scroll, With gold leaf and all. And I found it one day In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away. And my eyes still grow damp To remember His Majesty Signed with his own rubber stamp. It was dark all around. There was frost in the ground When the tigers broke free. And no one survived From the Royal Fusiliers Company C. They were all left behind, Most of them dead, The rest of them dying. And that's how the High Command took my Daddy from me. [ April 21, 2002, 02:08 PM: Message edited by: Lord Dragon ]
Mattias
I always get a knot in my guts when I hear that song. Perhaps even more so from "Southampton dock". Right or wrong there is always someone who pays the price, and it's usually not the ones who owes. M.
