sdmike
I am having a problem with the CM locking up after a few minutes of play. I have the latest version, 1.1, and video card drivers from Creative. The card is the AGP Soundblaster Bandshee 3-d. I am running the game in Direct 3d mode. AMD II 400 Hot Shuttle 591P 64 MB RAM Soundblaster 16 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks MIke
Schrullenhaft
Have you played any other version other than 1.1 ? Did you have problems with that version locking up too ? Have you changed any drivers or installed any programs lately ? Have you checked your motherboard manufacturer's website (Shuttle/Spacewalker) for any compatibility info on your AGP card ? Some Super Socket 7 motherboards have problems with AGP cards becasue of their electrical current requirements. Sometimes this issue is version with a revision of the motherboard to add/change some circuitry. If there was a compatibility issue with your AGP slot you would probably have problems running other DirectX games though. What drivers are you using for your Banshee ? Are they from Creative or are they from 3dfx ? I saw someone post on this forum a couple of days back mentioning that they had problems with the 3dfx reference driver and went back to the manufacturer's driver (Diamond in this case). 3dfx's Reference Drivers (Banshee is v. 1.04.00): http://www.3dfx.com/downloads.htm Creative's Banshee drivers (dated 8-27-99): http://www.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?reg=0&OS=Win98∏=db_ban&select=Get+Files The latest BOIS for your motherboard is dated 6-22-2000 v. WIQH. Your board is based on a VIA chipset, so you may want to install the latest VIA 4-in-1 chipset drivers: Shuttle HOT-591P BIOS update (which probably won't fix your problem regarding CM): http://www.spacewalker.com/english/download.htm#HOT-591p VIA 4-in-1 drivers v. 4.25a: http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/index.htm I believe your sound card should probably be fine. The SoundBlaster 16 ISA's don't interfere too much with other products since it is mostly hardware and only so many voices compared to PCI sound cards. If you reinstall your video drivers you'll probably want to reinstall DirectX (usually before your video driver install). DirectX 8.0 is the latest, but you may want to be careful in changing DirectX versions since it may cause problems with some games or some drivers (DirectX 8.0 will have the latest drivers for the SB 16). crepitis
When I first started playing CMBO it would lock up totally, sometimes after 5 mins, sometimes after an hour or longer, but it never failed to do so.And I mean total,re-boot lockup.I posted a help request on this forum and got lots of suggestions. One of them reccomended fitting a bigger, more powerful, fan in my case.I tried it and it worked a treat!I play CMBO on a daily basis and since fitting the new fan it hasnt locked up on me once, the difference is dramatic. You could try it ,it might work, and the new fan only cost a couple of £/$.
IDF
sdmike, If you have looked at my post you will see that I have exactly the same problem as you. in fact I also have a similar system AMD 650 Duron 128 MG RAM and 32 Mg TNT 2 Video with SB live. I havn't yet come up with a satisfactory solution. Some one told me to decrease the video acceleraltion in the display options. This may work but the graphics look ****. Good luck. It might be connected with AMD chip!!???
