Captured Units

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was reading the thread on 'notes on the CMBO scoring system', when I came across this statement:

"Note that while exiting your units does not

lower your victory level, it lowers global morale. Captured unit must be exited from over your map edge to count, any other edge frees them.

Does this mean you can move captured units?? and that you have to exit them from your edge to even get points?? i remember trying to move captured units many various ways when i first captured enemy troops, and IIRC even tried a little 'mow down the POW's' smile.gif

but alas, nay luck

cheers

Yes you can move captured units. You give them orders just like you do any other unit, but the orders list is limited - basically, you can order them to move, or stop, I think. No running or anything fancy. Best to escort them with an out-of-ammo AT team or similarly worthless unit, too - can escape otherwise.

My understanding is that you do not have to exit captured units to get the double points for them - they must either (1) still be captured at the end of the game, or (2) have been exited off of a friendly map edge - if you exit them off of a neutral or enemy map edge, you get no points. It think that's what the writer of the quote above meant - the word usage is just a bit ambiguous.

Cheers,

YD

I know the manual says you have to guard captured troops, but my experience is that if you give them a long move order off a friendly map edge, they will dutifully march to the rear and off the map edge without guarding. If you can't reach the map edge, due to a river or somefink, just march them to a quiet spot away from the battle and they'll remain quiescent.

I've lost a few captured guys in volitile situations near the front, or when an enemy unit penetrated far enough to reach the captive, but I've never lost a single guy who marched off the board unobstructed.

Tripps,

Maybe when you tried to move the captured units they were broken, routed, etc. Just like your own units, you can't give orders to prisoners who are still freaking out (!).

One time, my point unit was captured, but the follow-on units caught up and killed its captors, thus freeing him. The now liberated unit didn't have any ammo or weapons though, and his status bar said "Unarmed." Nice touch.
