Whatever happened to corduroy roads......

Recommended Posts

and anti tank ditches for that matter?

My impression was that corduroy roads were vital in the swampy regions of Russia and they were certainly slated to be in the game.

Perhaps they were more vital in the logistical sense but given the virtual absence of roads in Russia, they would have been a nice touch. Useful maybe for linking trench systems and defensive positions (around Leningrad for instance).

Speaking of roads, or the lack of them, what on earth is the use of including road-blocks, which would have had scant effectiveness overall, and excluding anti-tank ditches which were used extensively? These, too, were scheduled to be in the game.

Just wondering what happened to them.

I think that would be the case. I doubt they had much impact on tactical movement. If you are advancing, you wouldn't have had time or opportunity to lay them on the battlefield. If you were retreating, you would have made sure to destroy them as you go. In any case, they were a temporary expedient that required constant maintenance, weren't they?
