Gruppenbuehren - any information on units or terrain?

Recommended Posts

Did a google search on Gruppenbühren, and apparently its only real claim to fame was that a U-Boat commander was born there (he was killed on his first war patrol with his entire crew).

It is a small town near the Dutch-German border, about 20 kilometres south of Wilhelmshaven, very near Oldenburg, Bremen, and Delmenhorst.

Does anyone know which German units were in the area in April 1945? Despite it being late in the war, the 2nd Canadian Division experienced some hard fighting there, and several awards for valour were made to one Allied regiment in particular during the fighting for the town.

If anyone can help with terrain maps, also, that would of course be of interest.

You can look it up on Multimap.com. Zoom in, and you get an idea of the road layout, and the large forests nearby.

The terrain will be flat, with a tendency to gently undulate. All terrain in that area is like that. Oh, and boggy. If they know one thing in that area, it is bogs. They are experts in them. Deep, treacherous, mindnumbingly flat bogs. Did I mention it is a boggy area?
