Kingfish
What was the OOB for this formation circa Op Spring? According to several sources, the 18th Battery contributed to the successful attack on Verrieres (the village, not the ridge). Both Reynolds and Jarymowycz mention 17pdrs, but were they towed or SPAT? If the latter, Achilles or Archers?

Michael Dorosh
Canada did use Archers, though - why so sure, JonS? Not disputing, just curious.
Michael Dorosh
Archer of 2nd Cdn AT Regiment in 1945. Don't know what the WE was in 1944.
JonS
Archers were in the AT regts of inf divs, but not till much later. Oh, wait. Which formation did 2nd AT Regt belong to? If it was 2nd or 3rd Can Inf Div, then 17pr = towed. If it was II Can Corps (ie, the Corps AT regt), then 17-pr = Achilles. If it was 4th (or was it 5th?) Can Armd Div, then 17-pr = towed or Achilles. [ May 10, 2007, 06:18 PM: Message edited by: JonS ]
JonS
Ok, Wiki has 2 A-Tk Regt as part of 2 Can Inf Div, therefore 17-pr = towed. Two btys would have 6-pr, and two would have 17-pr, all towed. The 17-prs probably towed by de-turreted tanks as prime movers (Rams? Cromwells? Sumfink like that). 3 Can Inf Div - as an assault div - had some M-10 SPATs on strength, but since 2 Can Div follwed later they wouldn't (at least; shouldn't) have had any. Full org: 2nd Anti-Tank Regiment . 18th Anti-Tank Battery . 20th Anti-Tank Battery . 23rd Anti-Tank Battery . 108th Anti-Tank Battery Other places to look: * Nigel Evans' RA website has a detailed listing of all Fd and A-Tk Regts. * CMHQ or AHQ reports - look for the ones detailing equipment states, or perhaps the narrative ones. http://www.dnd.ca/dhh/history_archives/engraph/resources_e.asp?cat=1 [ May 10, 2007, 06:18 PM: Message edited by: JonS ]
Kingfish
Ok, so towed guns it is. Thanks for that. On a related topic, I notice that CMAK drops the Canadians from the editor during the month of July '44, but has them included for June and August. Were they withdrawn for a month of rest and reorg?
JonS
Dunno. Sounds likely though. 2(NZ)Div - to take a random example - spent several long-ish periods out of the line in both NA and Italy. Why BFC would bother reflecting that is beyond me though. In terms of scen design, the date hack in the editor should give you the units needed in the right month.
