Darby's Rangers

Recommended Posts

Wild Bill Wilder's latest article at wargamer.com is about Darby's Rangers.

From the readme 1.02 1.03 patch

* US Rangers first available February 1943.

IIRC before it was July 43 to Feb 44

From WBW's article

"The first Ranger action came during Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of North Africa. On November 8th, 1942, they successfully overcame the defenders in two forts at Azrew harbor. This opened the way for the landings of the 1st Infantry Division of the Center Task Force."

Then no action until 1943. I guess it makes more sense to start them in Feb 43 than in Nov 42 for one battle and then deal with Dec and Jan.

Anyway Bill's article is a good one. Enjoy

The initial action at Azrew harbor was against the Vichy French IIRC?

If so, given that the Vichy French aren't modelled in CMAK I guess as far as game TOEs are concerned, the Rangers are available in game only from early 1943.

PS shame the Vichy Forces never made it in game. A few scenarios based on the Syrian campaign (Australians and Free French vs Vichy French) would have been interesting.

That would have provided another good excuse to include the Commandos as well, as they too got into that little fracas, though not necessarily to their pleasure.

Michael

PS: They were also in Crete, Salerno, and a bunch of other "interesting" places.
