John Kettler
Managed to catch this last night on Time Warner Cable, and was it ever good! Talked about a bunch of things not normally covered, to include Rhino ferries, Navy beach control units and array of comm means, Navy Combat Demolition Units in a major discussion of the obstacle system and dismantlement thereof, composition of asaault craft loads (each one had a 60mm mortar and bazookas for autonomous heavy weapon support), details of the Pont du Hoc assault and on the guys who found and destroyed the missing guns. Lots of great interviews, and R. Lee Ermey walks the beach, Pointe du Hoc, and down the Norman lanes, which are blindingly green. The footage was terrific and mostly not the usual stuff. There's even some of a destroyer under ~6" shore battery fire. If it wasn't hit, there's a lot of scuffed paint! The Cullen headgerow cutter is shown, together with Cullen (who didn't invent the idea but recognized a good one from a colleague), with an interview with Belton Cooper, in whose unit the tanks were modified. I hope as many of you as possible get to see this on later broadcasts. Those of you with a thing for Normandy may want to order this show. First rate!
