Schrullenhaft
Since you downloaded and installed "DirectX 10", I assume you are trying to run one of the CM games in Windows Vista, is that correct ? To my knowledge DirectX 10 doesn't work and shouldn't install on Windows XP. The "Direct 3D Test", I assume is actually the resolution selection screens, which are black with the exception of a text box in the middle of the screen with the current resolution info inside of it. I assume that this is what you're seeing. If you're getting the DirectX Diagnostic loading up when you try to run CM, then something else sounds majorly wrong with your system. Please provide some more details on your operating system, videocard, which CM title you're trying to play and what video drivers you have installed. The "Unhandled Exception c0000005" error is a DirectX related error, BUT it doesn't necessarily mean that the DirectX installation itself is at fault. More often than not it is the video drivers that are the culprit. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) I don't have Windows Vista to run tests on, so I'm not exactly sure what you're seeing. Others have reported problems with the CMx1 titles and Windows Vista. Quite a few of those problems are related to the newest videocards and their emphasis on DirectX 10. Some of the 'shortcuts' that the videochip developers have taken in their drivers has affected the CMx1 series pretty badly and it may take a long time before some of those issues are addressed (and possibly re-broken with yet a newer set of drivers - a very common cycle with video drivers).
