Brent Pollock
[i initially posted this @ Scenario Talk, but I've not seen a response, so I thought I'd cross-post it here] As per title, I'm after info pertaining to the composition of this unit. It was apparently part of 85. Infanterie Div., which fought the Governor General's Foot Guards in Wouwsche Plantage. Any other info on units that fought this battle on 23 October '44 would be appreciated. I've one Canadian source that shows a photo of a KO'd Nashorn, so I'm going with that and some JgPz IV(L). I've gone near blind from Googling and have checked: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/Infanteriedivisionen/85ID.htm http://www.diedeutschewehrmacht.de/85%20inf%20div.htm http://www.panzerdiesel.com/data/e/2j4304h.html?PHPSESSID=ca837bbb51b33b925a4a7d678de94538 http://www.legionmagazine.com/features/canadianmilitaryhistory/02-01.asp
Redwolf
I don't know about that specific unit, but it was common to have tank hunter detachments with 1 heavy company (Nashorns) and 2 medium companies (JPz IV).
Fernando
According to Nafziger ("The German Order of Battle. Infantry in WWII")that battalion had 12 75 mm PaK 40 on Feb 6th, 1944. Sorry no Nashorns nor Panzerjäger IV's. IIRC Nashorns went to independent battalions, but I may be wrong.
Brent Pollock
I'll use poetic license and bet they all got abandoned during August during the Falaise fiasco, then were replaced by JgPz IVs...yah...that's the ticket.
