The_Enigma
from what ive read the No. 36 Mills grenade also had a rifle grenade version. Was this rifle grenade version ever used by the british troops during ww2? If so should it not be moddled in cmak and other games? About the Gammon grenade, they were introduced in May 1943, airborne troops such as 1 Parachute Bde were reported using them in africa, so how come there not avaialble in cmak (they were in cmbo) to the paras in scilly (or even africa)?
flamingknives
The rifle grenade of the No.36 was essentially a No.36 with a modified baseplate. This was fitted into a cup discharger fixed to the end of the barrel and the pin pulled. A gas cartridge (a blank) was then used to propel the grenade through the air to the target. Don't know how much it was used.
sand digger
There was a detailed discussion of British grenades here a while ago, should show up in a search.
Michael Dorosh
The SMLE was changed over by 1943 in any event (by everyone but Australia) - I don't think the No. 4 Mk I had a cup discharger, did it?
flamingknives
According to good old Forty, the cup discharger could be fitted to both the SMLE and the No.4. In any case, the commonwealth forces kept the SMLE later than the British Army.
