XP/NVidia Problem

Recommended Posts

the 2310 drivers are the closest solution yet. I just tried with XP and CMBO stock. If you turn on 2x fsaa the only place you get an error is the end screen aar. If you hit esc and come back in even that is taken care of. I recommend esc out and back in anyway, if you don't you get the transparency issues.

Without the 2x fsaa with 2310, the game is playable, but the command menu is transparent. Either way, this is the closest solution nvidia has posted yet.

soloje - some people have had problems with the 23.11 drivers (though not specifically in CM). When you say that the text is hard to read are you speaking of the scenario selection screen ? Does the text appear in several mixed colors ? This would be the 'white transparency' bug that has been mentioned about the NVidia drivers under Windows 2000 and XP. I'm not sure if any of the current NVidia drivers fix this issue completely. Sometimes the very first game may come up fine, but once you come out of a 3D game and back into the 2D info screens (AAR, scenario selection, etc.) the white transparency bug is back.

The only solution so far is to press the ESC (or its French equivalent) key or Alt-Tab out of CM and then remaximize CM. The white elements should appear on the screen correctly until you finish a 3D game and come back to a 2D screen - the problem will return. ESC'ing out again and coming back should fix the problem again.

If you're having a problem with in game text (while in a 3D game), then you probably should turn your FSAA setting to 2X or higher. This is done from the Display control panel (Settings tab > Advanced... button > GeForce (whatever model you have) tab > Additional Properties... button > 3D Antialiasing Settings tab > select "Manually select the antialiasing mode" and then select 2X, 4X or Quincux if available (GeForce 3 series only).

This only occurs with the NVidia-based cards. Other video cards under Win2K/XP don't have this particular problem.

Hi... I have had all sort of graphics problems with geforce - Xp. Now, with 15.70 and fsaa 2* all are gone. And I belive that this is the best drivers solution now -on my system, geforce 256, via kt133a...-. Because they never make display errors.

Ehm... another thing...not for CMBO... someone can explain me why, in xp, my floppy desk seem very full of problems -it see the disk unformatted!!!- with floppy formatted on a Win me system, and win me in another partition of the same computer is able to read normally the same diskette???

TCP - your floppy problem sounds strange, especially considering that it is being formatted and read on the same floppy drive, but read by different OS's.

I'm not sure why this would be so. I'd suggest copying any info you want off of the diskette while you're booted into WinME and then boot into XP and reformat the diskette and copy some files to it while still in XP. Then attempt to read this XP-formatted floppy in WinME. If WinME can see the diskette fine, then copy some files to the diskette while still in WinME and then reboot into XP and attempt to read the diskette again. If everything works, then reverse the process again by reformatting the diskette in WinME and copying files onto the diskette and then attempt to read it again in XP.

I know Microsoft puts a unique 'ID Number' on each diskette and I'm not sure what else they do. There's a possibility that this info is somehow corrupted when the floppy is being read in XP, thereby making XP think that the diskette is unformatted.

Can you read any floppy diskettes in XP that weren't originally formatted under XP (like some software installation diskettes, or whatever) ?

As for the NVidia drivers, I believe either 23.10, 15.70 or even 14.70 will work fine under Win2K or XP. ESC'ing is still necessary at times, but a little less so than earlier drivers. FSAA seems to be a requirement to get everything looking proper within the main 3D game itself.

soloje - I'm not sure what you mean by "test IDE drive with XP and Athlon motherboard". Are you having a problem with your particular hard drive and your motherboard ? What motherboard and what hard drive (model & manufacturer) do you have ? I've seen some IDE controller (the southbridge of the chipset) problems with certain VIA chipsets (XP would never finish installing). It got bad enough that I put a separate PCI controller to control the hard drive (a Promise Ultra 100TX2). This particular chipset was the VIA 686A (that is the particular southbridge component - most chipsets are usually identified by their northbridge component). I don't know if there are universal problems with this chipset and XP or if it something specific to certain manufacturers.
