Madmatt
Whoops, locked up the wrong one. Anyway, make sure you have sound enabled from within the game. Shift-S toggles between the various sound settings. Madmatt

Schrullenhaft
Which specific drivers do you have ? The 2.45's were just released a few days ago, though I have no idea if they'll address your problem. I've heard of problems like this with some Sound Blasters (Lives, Audigys, etc.), but it isn't consistent. Admittedly I've heard of a number of problems with the Nvidia Audio (quality, etc.). It's also possible that downgrading your driver may help with the problem. Which particular motherboard do you have ?

Madmatt
Try reducing the Sound Hardware Acceleration slider one notch to the left via the DirectX control panel. You can access that by running DXDIAG from the Windows run prompt. While you in that, you should check to make sure DirectX is properly registering your sound drivers. WarDogz
how many sound devices do you have in your system and have you checked the Control Panel to ensure your playback is set to the correct device?
